Bhutan Heritage, Culture and Dagala Trek

Day 1: Arrival in Paro Valley, Bhutan

  • Welcome to Bhutan! Enjoy descent into Paro valley. Your guide and driver will greet you as you exit.
  • Offer prayers at Kyichu Lhakhang, the oldest temple in Bhutan, dating back to the 7th century. 
  • This revered temple is one of the 108 temples built by King Songtsen Gampo.
  • If time permits, enjoy sightseeing in Paro based on your interests, with suggestions from your guide.
  • Check-in at hotel. Then head for a hot stone bath at Chencho Farm House followed by dinner at the farmhouse. 
  • Overnight in Paro Valley.

Day 2: Paro to Punakha Valley

  • Start your day with an early breakfast and check out.
  • Embark on a thrilling hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang Monastery), a 7 am to 12 pm excursion. The sacred monastery clings dramatically to the cliffs at 3,120m.
  • Lunch will be planned for you during the journey.
  • Afterward, travel from Paro to Punakha (approx. 1 pm to 5 pm) with halts for photography and scenic beauty at Dochula Pass (3,140m). Enjoy the 108 chortens and spectacular views of the Eastern Himalayas.
  • Arrive in Punakha in the evening and check in at Zhingkham Resort.
  • Overnight in Punakha Valley.

Day 3: Punakha to Phobjikha Valley (Gangtey)

  • After breakfast, visit the historic Punakha Dzong (Palace of Happiness), one of Bhutan’s largest and most beautiful monasteries.
  • Begin your scenic 3-hour drive to Phobjikha Valley with a tea break at Nobding village.
  • Arrive in Phobjikha in the afternoon and visit Gangtey Monastery, perched on a hilltop offering stunning views.
  • Check in at the monastery, where you’ll enjoy a peaceful evening, including a blissful walk and an opportunity to join the monks for their prayers.
  • Dinner and overnight at the monastery.

Day 4: Exploring Phobjikha Valley

  • After breakfast at the monastery, enjoy a serene walk along the Phobjikha Trail, known for its stunning vistas and natural beauty.
  • Visit the Black Necked Crane Center to learn about the rare birds that migrate to this valley in winter.
  • Lunch at a local restaurant followed by an afternoon exploring the valley, including a visit to the Phobjikha Nunnery.
  • Check into Hotel,enjoy dinner at the lodge, and relax.
  • Overnight in Phobjikha Valley

Day 5: Phobjikha Valley to Thimphu

  • After breakfast, begin your journey to Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu, passing through Wangdue District, Lobesa village, and Dochula Pass. The drive offers breathtaking views and photography opportunities.
  • Lunch will be arranged along the way at a scenic spot.
  • Arrive in Thimphu in the late afternoon and check in at hotel.
  • Visit the stunning Tashichhodzong and enjoy any additional sightseeing in Thimphu as per your interests.
  • Evening at leisure.  Cultural show with Dinner at Phangu and overnight in Thimphu.

Day 6: Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek

  • Begin the Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek with a 7 km hike from Genekha to Gur (5-6 hours). The trail passes through conifer forests and terraced fields, offering scenic valley views.
  • Camp at Gur (3290m) amidst wildflowers.
  • Overnight in camp

Day 7 : Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek

  • Tom & Lois: Depart early in the morning for your onward flight to New Delhi.
  • Paul & Luus: Continue the Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek with a 12 km hike to Labatama (6 hours). Today’s trek offers stunning views of the Kanchenjunga and the Dagala Range, passing through yak herders’ camps and beautiful meadows.
  • Camp by the scenic Utsho Lake (4300m), where golden trouts abound.
  • Overnight in camp.

Day 8: Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek

  • Spend the day exploring the Labatama LakesRelitsho, Hentsho, Setsho, and Jagetsho. Enjoy the serene surroundings and learn about the local folklore associated with the lakes.
  • Optional hike to Jomo Peak (5050m).
  • Overnight in camp at Labatama.

Day 9: Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek

  • Hike from Labatama to Panka (8 km, 5-6 hours), crossing a saddle at 4,520m, offering majestic views of the Himalayan peaks including Everest, Kanchenjunga, and Masangang.
  • Descend to Panka, passing yak herder camps and monal pheasants.
  • Overnight in camp at Panka (4000m).

Day 10: Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek

  • The final day of the trek, Panka to Thimphu via Talakha and Chamgang (14 km, 8 hours).
  • Cross several scenic passes and hike through lush forests before descending to Chamgang Village. From here, a vehicle will transfer you back to Paro Valley.
  • Arrive in Paro in the late afternoon, relax, and enjoy dinner at the hotel.
  • Overnight in Paro Valley.

Day 11: Farewell Bhutan

  • After breakfast, enjoy a scenic drive to Paro Airport, where you’ll bid farewell to your guide and chauffeur.
  • Safe onward journey!
